yet another purchase Students have come to view education as yet another commodity, something that can be purchased and displayed. The idea that sudents have any responsibility in the exchange has been lost in that students expect to passively receive what they have paid for. Additionally, the value of education is often viewed as not the acquisition of knowledge but as a badge of prestige.

thai students responsiblity? ha! How many times I've stopped my lesson to go over this topic. I think it is just part of their upbringing to not feel they have any responsibilities until they graduate university.
Teachers are responsible to hand feed the students with monotonous rote learning. Then they are happy to get a 50% and pass on by.

The responsibility is all on the teacher. I think parents are the main problem because they have stopped parenting and look to the teacher to become a surrogate parent taking on too much responsibility for their children.
