We would like to thank you for your interest in the English Opens Doors (EOD) Volunteer Program. If you desire to experience another culture, improve your Spanish, and help others who value your unique skills, then you have come to the right place. In addition to giving you the chance to live with a Chilean family and become involved in a specific community, the EOD Volunteer Program offers you the special opportunity to partner with the Chilean Ministry of Education and Chilean English teachers to improve English education in Chile.
We would like to briefly tell you about the EOD Volunteer Program, which was created through the English Opens Doors Program, in 2004 through the support of both the Chilean Ministry of Education and the United Nations Development Programme-Chile. By bringing native English speakers into Chilean public schools, the EOD Volunteer Program aims to increase both students’ motivation and their ability to communicate in English. Since its founding, the EOD Volunteer Program has placed more than 800 volunteers in publicly funded schools in communities ranging from Arica to Patagonia. Given that educated, English-speaking citizens are essential to secure Chile’s future in a globalizing world, the program has gained wide governmental support, most notably from President Michelle Bachelet, who has expressed her support of the program through her Presidential Initiatives.
