| Introduction: |
Hello there. I'm Alex and I'm a diligent, conscientious and likeable (so my students say!) teacher from London, U.K. I have experience teaching all levels and ages, ranging from beginners English to five year olds to advanced conversational techniques to university and mature students. I've taught classes of 70 boistrous twelve year olds and intensive one-on-one tutoring for exams such as IELTS, and just about everything in between. I have a passion and a deep knowledge of my language - greatly assisted by my years of learning latin and greek at school - which gives me the ability to explain what a word means and WHY it means what it does. Explaining etymology, especially of things like prefixes, helps students see the relationships between words. My hope is that by teaching students things like this, they will be able to guess the meaning of a word having never seen it before. I feel this a crucial part of self-study and vocabulary building when one is learning a new language. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy teaching students of advanced ability and raising their ability from very good to an elite level. That being said, however, I am equally comfortable teaching young ones and establishing good pronounciation and learning techniques at that crucial stage of first contact with a language. 'Don't worry! Just talk! It's ok!', I say.
I realise that my experience is based entirely in mainland China but I have an ever-deepening interest in Asia and the Far East particularly. I would love the opportunity to impart my knowledge of English to a new generation of students whilst experiencing both the ancient and modern cultures of these fascinating countries. |
