| Introduction: |
I want to live and work in Europe teaching English to children for many reasons. One, I believe it is a very important job. Teaching is a very important job, one of the most important jobs in the world, in my opinion. To teach a child, to help them learn, to empower them to become strong and intelligent individuals, is one of the most demanding yet rewarding jobs one could ever have. I love working with children, and to be able to teach them to learn a new language is something I would be more than honored to do. Two, I love to travel and see the world. I want to see and experience new places, people, and cultures. I believe the best way to learn about a culture is to experience it firsthand. I want to live in Europe so I can have a new understanding for the culture and way of life. I firmly believe that the best way to understand and appreciate a different way of life is to experience it firsthand, so you can learn all the amazing things the culture has to offer. Three, I have years of experience as a teacher in foreign countries. I have lived in Japan and South Korea for four years as an English teacher. My experience teaching and living in Japan and Korea has been extraordinarily rewarding, I have learned so much, it has been an amazing and wonderful experience for me. I want to teach children and empower them to become successful individuals, travel and see the beauty of Europe, and experience the wonderful and amazing culture and diversity that Europe has to offer. I hope that I can learn about a culture, while being able to give something back at the same time. I hope that the lessons I learn while living and working in Europe will be ones I will be able to use for the rest of my life.
Experience
I have been a teacher in Japan and South Korea for four years. In Japan, I taught from 2005- 2007. I taught adult language classes, as well as children language classes, and was involved in Government Kids program, where I travelled to elementary schools in the Osaka/Kobe area and taught 5th graders beginning English. I taught in South Korea from 2007- 2009. I was a kindergarten and elementary teacher. I created my own lesson plans, prepared for classes, and researched effective methods of teaching ESL. I have also been a babysitter for 12 years, for ages 6 months to 10 years, in groups of 1-5.. I was a Counselor-in-Training at the City of Longmont Recreation Center Summer Camp for two summers; I worked with kids ages 6- 13, in various groups of 5- 25 kids, I helped plan, organize, and execute various activities. I was a tutor in high school; I tutored kids in the Special Needs program, and also volunteered with their field trips and other extracurricular activities. They were between 14- 18 years, in groups between 1- 10. I was the Kids Clerk at Borders Bookstore for 3 years, I was in charge of organizing the kids department, also did story time every week, and was in charge of planning and organizing two Harry Potter book release parties. Kids aged in range between 3- 16 years, in groups of 1- 15.
Personal Statement
I love working with kids, I am very passionate and committed to teaching children. Kids are a lot of fun and give one an interesting and unique perspective of the world. I can talk to and understand kids on their level. I love planning activities that are interesting, educational, and fun for them. Creating lesson plans that are fun and educational is a gat challenge. Teaching children to read has been one of my greatest achievemets. I love interacting with kids and teaching them. I have a lot of patience, understanding, and energy for kids. I have some experience working with kids through communicative barriers, as an ESL teacher to children for four years. I tutored many students in the Special Needs program at my high school, and they had various learning and mental disabilities, which are a form of communication barriers. I’m very excited about the opportunity to teach and interact with kids, I hope I can learn many things from them as well as teach them and give them tools that they can use for the rest of their lives.
