      Oliver Culling

      To Whom it may concern,

My name is Oliver Culling and I am a 26 year old from England and I am currently living in Australia. I have been privileged to have studied through private education within England, as well as obtaining a university degree at higher education. I have also successfully completed a TESOL course within Australia as well as Teaching Adults and Private Tuition assignment modules through the same institution. I am currently seeking English teaching opportunities within Japan, ideally within Yokohama and I hope you are able to help me with my search. I am available from May 2010, following my Australian Working Holiday visa expiring on 12th May 2010.

For the past twenty months I have been living in Australia and it has been during this period where I have met many non-English speakers and have been able to provide insight and correction of the English language to them. Outside of my work within Australia I decided to involve myself in language exchange meetings, where I’ve found the opportunity of tutoring and learning to be very rewarding and insightful. I have found the Japanese who I have met to be very dedicated, respectful and intellectual as well as very friendly. Having made strong friendships through the language exchange meetings I decided to visit Japan for a two-week trip, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Himeji and Osaka. I found the experience to only enhance my desire of spending more time in Japan. I admire the Japanese culture and people for their past and present triumphs and I hope to continue learning more about Japan and Asia at every opportunity. As a combination of this, I now wish to pursue my goal of providing my services in a professional capacity so that students studying English can hopefully benefit from my English upbringing.

Following my university graduation I involved myself in the field of Human Resources where numerous skills were gained and strengthened. Primarily communication, in all forms, is vital within the human resources area, with mediation, analysis, coordination and administration skills enforcing my roles. Insight and involvement into the Learning and Development field, associated with Human Resources, has developed my understanding of personality traits, leaning styles and other behavioural theories. In many of my work places I have been required to adapt to changing environments quickly, make balanced arguments to pursue a decision and continually support my team where necessary. I hold a strong ethical and fairness stance and have a focus on detail. I have held responsible positions throughout my schooling and within work roles and have passed on my knowledge, gained through my experiences where it has been possible. For example I have provided feedback and suggestions to my employers for improvements, helped others with travel and work opportunities and I’ve also taught friends how to swim. I believe these attributes will provide a strong foundation for my role as an English tutor.

Travel and living away from home has exposed me to many people, cultures and beliefs and I feel more knowledgeable and appreciative of many aspects of life everyday as a result. I have undertaken some private tuition and language exchange meetings, to escalate my tutoring experience. I have enjoyed the meetings greatly, finding I am a very clear speaker with a neutral English accent and hold a comprehensible pace and pitch, which many non- English speakers, as well as English speakers, have pleasing admired. I have been learning Japanese with the help of my friends and the language exchange meetings, which I hope to continue to a higher level. I am a person who always puts other before myself, I enjoy a wide range of interests and I am able to relate with all ages, personalities and cultures following my experiences. As can be seen on my resume, I am loyal to my employers, have made dedicated contributions to my teams and have importantly made many friends along the way.

I would like to contribute to an individual’s learning, where the use of the English language will enhance their opportunities for success for their pursuit of further goals. I would like to be part of an institution where I have support and guidance whilst tutoring as well as challenge and the opportunity to pursue additional areas of interest.

I look forward to hearing from you.

      Yours Sincerely,

      Oliver Culling

I believe I have gained the invaluable skills, knowledge and ability to contribute to the success of any team. I wish to strongly develop myself in every capacity through challenge, job satisfaction and the prospect of further career enhancement.
